For most amateur home decorators (read: homeowners) the various options and features can be daunting. If you’re trying to save money, you might be thinking “Why would I want some fancy add-on when I don’t even know what it is or what it does?” Would you be interested in a feature that allows you to utilize natural light, get varied amounts of privacy when you want them, and create a beautiful look? If your answer is “Yes!” you might be in the market for Top Down/Bottom Up.
One of the most popular features available for
window treatments, Top Down/Bottom Up allows you to lower the top of the blind,
while the rest of it stays lowered, or operate it the traditional way. It is most readily available on cellular shades, roman shades, and pleated shades, though you can usually find it on most blinds as well. When you
lower the top, light will come in through the gap between the top of the shade
and the top of the window, but you’ll still maintain your privacy. Imagine
being able to open your blinds first thing in the morning while you’re getting
ready for the day without worrying if your neighbors can see you getting
dressed. It’s possible! Plus, daylighting – the concept of using natural light
to brighten a room – will seriously save you money on your energy bills. Not
turning your lights on in the morning will give you a significant reduction in
energy costs.
