Awhile back, I signed up for Twitter. Whales, and
birds, and RT and DM, it pretty much meant nothing to me. Plus, when the work
is piling up on your desk and it’s already 6:00, squeezing your thoughts into
140 characters or less can seem a bit, um, frivolous. After trying to import
some Twitter contacts from my address book and finding nobody using it, I
abandoned the effort.
Cut to a few months later. After a social media luncheon
with Giovanni Gallucchi, who reintroduced me to the wonders of Twitter and what
an easy-to-use, relevant tool it is, I decided to give it another shot. I
followed him. I followed those he followed. I followed the other I met at the
lunch that day. I was cautious, but willing to stick my neck out a little.
@AaronStrout It must be the lemon
pound cake. Try it!
Didn’t know
@AaronStrout, but I noticed his post about how addictive Starbucks is. Any
working girl knows that’s true (try to resist, it’s futile), and the lemon
poundcake is a little slice of Heaven. Now @AaronStrout knows that, all thanks
to me. Heh.
In any event, he
responded to that message. It was empowering, interesting, and useful. Aaron
Strout has 5,840 followers. I had, at most, 20. Plus, he knows a LOT about social media, blogging, and now, lemon
poundcake. By following him, I’d have access to useful information about social
media, and I'd learn better ways to connect to those who want updates. I finally got it.
This actually works. Why can’t it connect me to people who need help with their
window treatments?
I began to tweet
feverishly. I told my followers about great special discount, bargains, and
sales. I told them about the best yellow window treatments. I tweeted blog
entries, design help, and retweeted other people’s posts, like any good tweeter
will. I drew inspiration from insightful blog posts and flickr’ed images. I
learned the lingo, what a tinyurl was and who Guy Kawasaki is.
But that’s not
entirely the point.
The real reason for
Blinds.com to interact on Twitter is so that I can connect you, the DIYer, the
self-made decorater, the money-saving maven, to all that Blinds.com has to
offer. I want to help you customize your shopping experience and provide you
with real, helpful answers. I want to add value to your window treatment
purchase, and I want to connect you with the Design Consultants who sit down
the hall from me, talking to customers like you. I’ll continue to tell you
about our best sales, and ways to improve your décor and hopefully make shopping
for custom window treatments as fun and pain-free as possible.
I
can’t wait to connect with you. Follow me on twitter at http://www.Twitter.com/EstherSteinfeld.
Oh, and our CEO tweets too. http://www.Twitter.com/BlindscomCEO.
We’ll see ya there.
I love this post. Thanks for your kind words. You're obviously making some hay. Let me know how I can help out in the future.
Best,
Aaron | @aaronstrout
