Q: I need to block the sun from my larger trapezoidal
windows approximately 87" h x 18" h, long side-short side, with a 72 ' width. What can I use and where can I get them? They
are in the top of a chalet wall so are also up high.

A: Thanks for your question, Jackie. So many people have these misshaped, trapezoidal windows you refer to.
They’re prevalent in modern construction, and they look great from the outside.
It’s actually a lot easier than you think to find the perfect product for this
type of window. For those of you wondering what they heck something like this
looks like, take a look:
Now that we see some examples – that’s the thing about
trapezoids, none are exactly alike – we can move forward. A lot of places
require you send in some kind of template you’ve traced of your exact window,
laid out on template paper:
But DON’T WORRY, you don’t need to do that. Just make sure
your measurements are accurate for all 4 sides and that you specify the
orientation (ie, which side is the top, which side is on the right, etc).
Your window treatment needs to accomplish two things: it
needs to cover an odd-shaped window, and it needs to block light. The best
product for you is a cellular shade. Cellulars are the absolute best insulators
and light-blocking shades available. Depending on how much light you want to
let in, you’ll choose between a light filtering shade and a room darkening

Do these window shades pull up to the top or do they only pull up to the angle? I would like to know if you can have the cellular blinds go all the way up on a trapezoid window and if so what is the maximum height for the window? If not the cellular, do you have any other suggestions
