Checklist for Child Window Covering Safety

Children and window cords don’t mix. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, about once a month a child between 7 months and 10 years dies from window cord strangulation and another child suffers from a near strangulation. When window cords are within reach for small children, these seemingly harmless products may become hazards. At Blinds.com we take child safety very seriously, so here are a few ways that you can make your windows safer for kids. Child Safety Tips for Window Blinds: Make the Switch to Cordless Blinds or Shades. The National Window Covering Safety Council recommends that only cordless window coverings be installed in children’s bedrooms and sleeping areas. Newer blinds are constructed to meet updated safety standards, so replace…

Blogs We Love: Brittany Makes

Brittany

When roaming across the blogosphere, Brittany Makes immediately caught my attention. All it took was to read Brittany’s bio and I was sold: she’s an accountant by day and a blogger by night using Brittany Makes as her creative outlet while climbing the corporate ladder. Her goal to flex those creative muscles is a noble one and I found it very refreshing to find a blogger who leads a double life on what many would consider opposite ends of the spectrum: accounting and being artistic. Brittany’s blog is full of interior design inspiration, photos, and DIY crafts. Not only will you find an endless supply of beautiful things on her site, but her writing is hilarious. I don’t play favorites but…here’s…

Little Pincushion Studio

While browsing Houzz one day, I became immediately entranced after seeing the work of Annabel from Little Pincushion Studio. She teaches young girls how to sew and think with their crafty minds in this adorable studio she put together in rural Virginia. As one would expect, Annabel is an avid DIYer. Her blog consists of tons of crafty tutorials and projects. These 3 projects were especially inspiring: 1. Chair Reinvention Annabel found this vintage chair at her local Habitat for Humanity store, and after adding a little paint to it, it looks amazing! Transformations like this give me the urge to go thrift shopping, especially since the chair only cost her $10! 2. DIY Painted Clutch Inspired by “the most beautiful waxed…

Designer We Love: Bryn Alexandra

Bryn Alexandra

Although Bryn Alexandra originally started out in Advertising, it’s evident that her destiny was to become an interior designer. I recently stumbled across her blog and I was blown away by her work! I love how delicate and chic her style is, she achieves a clean and crisp look without it seeming dull or unoriginal. She’s so great that some of her room designs were featured in HGTV magazine: If this isn’t enough reason to make you fall in love with Bryn – I’ve got more evidence proving her genius. She came up with what was in my opinion, an extremely creative idea: the white box challenge. Bryn gifted three of her favorite bloggers with this lucite box from Joy…
