Blinds.com in the Community: Casa de Esperanza

This week, we were on-hand at Casa de Esperanza, a local non-profit in our hometown of Houston, TX. A spokesperson from Casa de Esperanza gave me some information about their organization:

Casa de Esperanza de los Niños, Inc. – House of Hope for Children – is a safe place for children in crisis due to abuse, neglect or the effects of HIV.  Casa de Esperanza provides residential, medical and psychological care according to the needs of each child.  Counseling is also available to the parents in appropriate situations.

Our purpose is to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect often caused by generations of poverty, drug abuse, mental health issues, and early pregnancies.  The goal is to unite children with stable families who can provide a safe and loving environment, so that this and future generations can grow to be responsible, productive adults.  Children are placed here either by CPS or voluntarily by families in crisis situations.  No fees are charged for our services, and we do not accept government funding; so we are dependent on the community for support.

We take care of infants and young children (newborn to 6 years old) in our neighborhood of 11 houses while our caseworkers work with the parents to make the changes necessary in their (often just the mom) lives to be able to take care of their children.  If the children  cannot be reunited with their birth parents, then we can do adoptions (at no cost to the adopting family.)

When Casa de Esperanza contacted Blinds.com a few weeks ago, they were in need of an arch to match the blinds that were already in place. Arches can be hard to cover, and are often a tricky design problem for many. Enter Scott D., our in-house shutter expert and Customer Service Supervisor, who helped them pick out the product and even went to Casa de Esperanza to install the arch.

Installed at Casa de Esperanza

The wonderful staff there expressed gratitude, as most of the items inside the building, and even the building itself, were there because of donations and caring people in the community who believe in the cause. They can officially count everyone at Blinds.com among those supporters.

Get out and do something great for the community this weekend. Happy Friday!
